The U.S. fears that al Qaeda may be plotting an attack inside the country or against U.S. interests abroad. Despite these warnings, the government has no plans to raise the terror threat level and has no details on when, where or how an attack might occur. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)

A homeless man allegedly snatched $40 from the table of a Mexican restaurant last night, but in a clear example of the punishment not fitting the crime, ended up getting shot over it. Two transit cops chased the man down and when he allegedly squirmed while getting handcuffed, one officer moved in sloppily. “It happened like an accident, he tried to put the gun back and bang — it went off,” a witness explained to the Daily News. “I thought my finger was off the trigger,” the officer supposedly said. That does not sound like a good-enough excuse, but we bet we know who ends up in more trouble.
