Netanyahu’s Press Corps Rescued After SUV Stalls in Tunnel

In a story titled “A funny thing happened on the way to Netanyahu’s UN speech,” a member of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s press corps recounted a scary traffic experience in New York City when “all of a sudden, our SUV ground to a halt in the middle of the road — in the middle of a tunnel, that is, somewhere on the FDR Freeway.” The sobering breakdown also halted bickering about air conditioning and chatter about shopping. A few Israeli journalists exited the black SUV provided by the U.S. Secret Service and actually hailed cabs in the busy tunnel when “a member of the tribe” (a Jewish-Russian immigrant) happened to pass by in a mostly empty school bus, and agreed to take the stranded press to the UN building. Since it seems private transportation is just as miserable as public transit, look for them on foot in Manhattan Saturday as they display their “shopping capacity.”
