Penguin is suing several big-name authors for $200,000 in hefty advances for books that never materialized. Among the targeted authors, reports the Smoking Gun, are New Yorker staff writer Rebecca Mead; Holocaust survivor Herman Rosenblat, whose Oprah-approved concentration camp love story turned out to be more fiction than nonfiction; Prozac Nation author Elizabeth Wurtzel; and Wonkette founder Ana Marie Cox. Penguin is also demanding nearly $70,000 in interest, a clear warning to all literary mooches and procrastinators.
