Russell Crowe Was Briefly Lost at Sea

Russell Crowe’s Labor Day weekend got a dash of adventure on Saturday, when he and a non-famous friend went on a kayaking trip on the Long Island Sound and found themselves lost (or “not lost,” according to the actor’s Twitter feed.) After an afternoon launch from Cold Spring Harbor, the pair got turned around and were forced to beach their kayaks in Huntington Bay — about ten miles from where they set off — as it grew dark. Luckily, the U.S. Coast Guard was patrolling the area, and Crowe (currently filming Noah in Oyster Bay) managed to flag down Petty Officer Robert Swieciki at around 10 p.m. Using their own boat, officers gave the guys a ride to Huntington Harbor, and all was well. “He just needed a little bit of help, he just got a little lost. It wasn’t really a rescue, really, more of just giving someone a lift,” said Swieciki, who — like every reasonable person — is clearly terrified of pissing off the noted phone-thrower
