Shepard Fairey Not Going to Jail Over Hope Poster

Photo: Shepard Fairey

The artist behind the endlessly parodied 2008 Barack Obama relic has long since settled with the Associated Press over use of its photo but was sentenced today for tampering with evidence in the case. Shepard Fairey faced up to six months in prison for what he called his “wrong-headed actions, born out of a moment of fear and embarrassment” but escaped with two years of probation and a $25,000 fine. A presidential pardon seems unlikely, if not entirely unearned.
