Robert Gibbs Addresses Unemployment Rate Conspiracy Theories

Former press secretary and current Obama adviser Robert Gibbs took on our country’s proud new unemployment rate truthers during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press today. “I assume, David, there’s a number of people that believe the real unemployment rate is somewhere in a safe in Nairobi with the president’s Kenyan birth certificate,” he told host David Gregory before calling the idea of the White House meddling with Friday’s jobs report “absolutely crazy.”

Gibbs also had some harsh words for the “jobber” king Jack Welch, who he said had “single-handedly embarrassed himself” by peddling conspiracy theories on Twitter and national television. “We wonder why institutions in this country, the perceptions of institutions, are failing: because people go on TV and make stuff up,” Gibbs added. Apparently he hasn’t seen Mitt Romney’s post-debate poll numbers.
