An Excellent Side Effect From Barclays Center: Cabs in Brooklyn

The Barclays Center brings its share of drawbacks for the surrounding neighborhoods, including lots of drunk people’s urine, but The Times points out on Sunday it also brings one perk that’s so far been decidedly rare: taxi cabs. City data and anecdotal evidence bear it out: “Throughout the evening of an event, drivers become more willing to perform drop-offs in the area, or even cruise in adjacent neighborhoods, because they can reasonably expect a return fare to Manhattan. And once an event ends, they descend on the arena to greet the crowd as it leaves.” Nothing against livery cabs, but when you’re out of cash, like at the end of a bar night, yellow cabs and their credit card machines are tops.
