Too much parking sounds like the definition of a first-world problem in New York City, but the reasoning behind a move to reduce parking space requirements in residential buildings there comes back, as everything does, to a lack of space. Buildings are required to have so many parking places per unit, but with lots of public transit at hand and easy access to everywhere, downtown Brooklyn residents don’t tend to have cars, so lots of that parking sits empty and could be used for more apartments. Moving into one of those units would be one way to avoid driving to Barclays.
