After many days of counting ballots from his extremely close race against Republican Martha McSally, Democratic Representative Ron Barber has been declared the winner of the Arizona congressional seat once held by Gabby Giffords. Barber used to be Giffords’s district director and was wounded alongside her during Jared Loughner’s 2011 mass shooting in Tucson. After Giffords decided to step down from Congress, Barber won a June special election to finish out the last six months of her term. He’ll now have at least another two years in the House.
