A wave of LGBT-friendly legislation may have just passed in the last election, but the Human Rights Campaign is already gearing up for the next fight. The organization’s new plan is to remind America that the Supreme Court is still considering whether or not to hear cases addressing the Defense of Marriage Act or California’s Proposition 8 — a decision they’ll make at the end of the month. So, the HRC released “Dawn of a New Day for Marriage Equality,” an ad that features images from the women’s suffrage movement and Martin Luther King Jr. alongside shots of LGBT families smiling at the camera while narrator extraordinaire Morgan Freeman speaks of “standing together for the right of gay and lesbian Americans to marry the person they love” — like penguins all marching together across the Antarctic Peninsula of injustice to the open waters of equality. Or something else similarly heartwarming.
