Despite his Shermanesque responses, David Petraeus wasn’t able to convince the world that he wouldn’t be running for office until he resigned in disgrace earlier this month. Now the Post reports that Paula Broadwell’s political career was also nipped in the bud by the discovery of their affair. In the spring Broadwell was trying to leverage her book into a new gig, and considered a variety of options including forming a production company, becoming a TV contributor, or branding herself as a fitness expert. “She also said she was considering potentially running for office, and many people had come to her about that. She said she had gotten requests from both parties to consider running for office,” says a source. Imagine how much messier the Pentagon of Love would have been if it had involved Senator Broadwell.
