While trend pieces in the New York Times have become something of a joke, it seems they got this one right on the nose — the peppermint pig’s nose, that is. According to a local paper, the “unusual holiday tradition” out of Saratoga has an increasing number of families smacking pink candy snouts with tiny metal hammers for good luck. The practice seems unusual until you remember it’s all in celebration of a miraculously conceived child.
