The Metropolitan Transportation Authority voted unanimously today to raise fares on subways, buses, and railroads starting in March. After some deliberation over how exactly to increase prices, single rides are set to go up a quarter to $2.50, while monthly MetroCards will jump $8 to $112 and weekly passes will be $30. “At the public hearings, customers asked us to minimize increases to the passes and maintain some level of bonus,” said outgoing MTA chief Joe Lhota in a letter to the board last week. “They did not want to see another double-digit percentage increase in the 30-day pass.” Tell Lhota how you think he did when he runs for mayor next year!
