Ophadell Williams, the allegedly overtired Chinatown bus driver in the crash that killed fifteen people last year in the Bronx, has been acquitted of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and 53 of 54 total charges. He was found guilty of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, for obtaining a license with false statements after previous issues with his driving record. In attempting to prove that Williams suffered from “sleep deprivation so severe that it affected his reflexes the same as if he was intoxicated,” prosecutors called 55 witnesses to the defense’s zero, the New York Times reports, but ultimately failed to prove or measure his fatigue. Williams, who could not post his $250,000 bail, has been in prison since September of 2011.
