Dozens of people arrested in New York City recently for low-level misdemeanors like public drunkenness or open-container violations have been sent to Coney Island to help clear away wreckage from Hurricane Sandy, and they’re actually working hard. “I believe they saw the need in the community and didn’t hesitate or hold back in participating with this special cleanup,” said one supervisor, who couldn’t help but sound surprised.
