Three Alarm Bronx Fire Leaves Three Dead

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced widespread budget cuts and layoffs due to the city`s budget deficit of 3.3 billion for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2011.With a city workforce that totals 300,000, the mayor plans to eliminate 10,000 jobs in the next 18 months through a combination of layoffs and attrition. An early morning fire at a three-story brick house in Soundview left man and a woman in their seventies and a teenage boy dead at the scene, a fire official told the New York Times. The top floors of 735 Beach Avenue burned for two hours, injuring two firefighters. A cause is still being investigated.
