Former New York Senator Al D’Amato Calls House Members Who Voted Against Sandy Aid ‘Jackasses’

Al D’Amato.

Former three-term New York GOP Senator Al D’Amato (defeated in 1998 by Chuck Schumer) didn’t have anything nice to say about the 67 House Republicans who voted against $9.7 billion in Hurricane Sandy relief aid for New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut yesterday. (The measure passed without them.) In an interview with the Daily News, he called the congressmen “a bunch of jackasses” who “are nothing more than pawns of a philosophy that is not backed up by facts.” Virginia Democrat Jim Moran summed up that philosophy nicely during an appearance on MNSBC’s Martin Bashir, when he singled out Paul Ryan (who shocked no one saying “no” to the money) for his belief in “Ayn Rand’s virtue of selfishness and this narrow-minded mean-spirited attitude that so many people in the Republican majority in the House believe in today.” The Daily News also included a helpful list of the 67 representatives and their office phone numbers, just in case anyone in the areas affected by Sandy — or anywhere else — has anything to say to them.
