As with almost every public figure who existed during the Cold War, the United States government looked into whether the late 60 Minutes correspondent was a secret communist. He wasn’t, though he did once travel to Cuba with a group that departed with 22 pieces of luggage and returned with 26. So, it is entirely possible that he really liked cigars.
