The 106-year-old Washington National Cathedral will begin offering marriage services for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender members in hopes of embracing inclusivity “that reflects the diversity of God’s world,” according to cathedral dean Reverend Gary Hall. “I read the Bible as seriously as fundamentalists do,” he told the AP. “And my reading of the Bible leads me to want to do this because I think it’s being faithful to the kind of community that Jesus would have us be.” Individual priests at the massive and iconic Episcopal church will be able to decide for themselves whether or not to perform same-sex marriages.
