Rupert Murdoch’s “sorry we’re evil” empire has agreed to pay out more than 100 fresh settlements for the News of the World’s phone hacking, including lawsuits from former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s wife Cherie and David Beckham’s dad, Bloomberg reports. News Corp. ended 2012 by settling 22 additional cases from its seemingly endless pile, as it would much rather write a check than go to trial. Elsewhere in this never-ending swirl of scandal, a British detective has been found guilty of trying to sell information on the phone-hacking investigation to the very Murdoch paper that was being investigated.
