NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly would like to remind New Yorkers that as nice as an assault-weapons ban would be for this country, it’s not likely to affect us directly: “Ninety percent, or 2,493, of the 2,779 illegal firearms seized from suspects in arrests in the city last year were handguns,” he writes in a New York Post column today. “By contrast, a total of 77 assault weapons were seized in arrests in the city, less than 3 percent of the total.” The handguns, meanwhile, almost all come illegally from other states. Get your act together, America.
