It’s official: The bill passed by Congress on Wednesday to raise taxes on the rich and keep tax cuts in place for everyone else (a.k.a. the fiscal cliff deal) is now a law, after President Barack Obama signed it sometime around midnight, Eastern Standard Time. After all that 11th-hour drama and posturing to get a deal worked out, the president didn’t even have to leave his Hawaiian vacation to sign it into law. Per the AP: “Obama, who is vacationing in Hawaii, signed the bill using an autopen, a mechanical device that copies his signature.”
