A 28-year-old woman used a black marker to scrawl “AE911” — likely a reference to the conspiracy theory site Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth — on Eugene Delacroix’s legendary painting Liberty Leading the People at a branch of the Louvre last night, only to be tackled by security and have her graffiti easily erased. “Louvre officials said that the writing was ‘superficial’ and had been cleaned off in less than two hours by a restorer without damaging the original 187-year-old brush-strokes,” the Independent reports. A nuisance, we know, but nothing more.
