Just after the New York Daily News printed a story pointing out how good the NYPD is at tracking criminals using social media, especially in Brownsville, a reputed gang member from the neighborhood proved their point. Nineteen-year-old Jonathan Thompson turned himself in last night after allegedly threatening the head officer at the 73rd Precinct, describing Deputy Inspector Joseph Gulotta’s car and his work schedule on the precinct’s own Facebook page. The post, taken as a death threat, was promptly traced to Thompson’s Internet connection, and somehow the old guys best the teenagers on technology once again.
