Update, 4:25 p.m.: The outlook for New York has gotten a bit worse (or better, if you like snow) as the day has progressed. The National Weather Service has declared a blizzard warning for all of New York City, Long Island, and Connecticut beginning at 6 a.m. Friday morning and ending 1 p.m. Saturday.
As for snowfall accumulations, Eyewitness News says New York City now has a 50 percent chance of getting more than a foot of snow. And these maps from the National Weather Service and the Weather Channel, respectively, forecast a foot or more.
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal’s Eric Holthaus says to expect Thundersnow.

Despite at least one model yesterday showing as much as 38 inches of snow getting dumped on New York City on Friday and Saturday, the latest forecasts all agree that Nemo — which is what this storm is called, for some reason — will bring a much more survivable accumulation of around five to twelve inches. According to an old Farmer’s Almanac chart we have taped up in our cubicle, that is still enough snow to warrant a panic run to the liquor store.
The Boston area, on the other hand, is in for a pummeling unlike any it has seen since Mark Wahlberg beat the shit out of some guy in Dorchester probably yesterday.
