Second Suspect in Officer’s Killing Acquitted

Two days after Lamont Pride was found guilty of shooting NYPD officer Peter Figoski to death in 2011, the man accused of driving the getaway car was acquitted of the crime. Michael Velez had said he didn’t know a robbery was going on when he waited in the car outside. The verdict did not please Figoski’s family members, who were already unhappy that Pride was convicted of second-degree murder instead of first. Per the New York Post, “the officer’s mom, Mary Ann Figoski, reacted with shock, her jaw dropping, while ex-wife Paulette Figoski buried her head in her hands when the ‘not guilty’ verdicts were read.”
