The Top 38 Pope Tweets of All Time [Updated]

In a nice bit of synergy, Pope Benedict sent what is likely to be his final tweet before retirement this morning around the same time he delivered his final general audience address. Live from St. Peter’s Square, the Los Angeles Times’ Henry Chu called the appearance not as good, crowded, or charismatic as those of Benedict’s predecessor, John Paul II: “In many ways, Benedict’s final address was in keeping with the rest of the papacy of a man who, though known to be engaging in private, seemed shy, aloof and even awkward, at times, in public.” His Twitter account is kind of like that, too — wordy, lacking in engagement, and downright preachy — but to bid Benedict farewell, we’ve ranked his messages from best to worst regardless.
