How to Save $8 on Your Next MetroCard

You can take our lives, but you’ll never take … our eight dolllaaaaaarrrrsss until next month.

When the clock strikes 12:01 a.m. this Sunday, the cost of a 30-day unlimited MetroCard will increase by $8. But if you’re smart, and a little lucky, you can avoid paying that extra $8, at least for the first month. The New York Times looked into the fine print and crunched some numbers, and you can read all about it over there, but the gist is this: If your current monthly expires on or before March 13, you should buy your next MetroCard (don’t use it yet, just buy it) before the fares increase on Sunday. For everyone else, your only recourse against The Man is giving swipes to freeloaders.
