Mississippi State Representative Found Shot to Death at Former Legislator’s Home

Mississippi state Rep. Jessica Upshaw, a Republican, was found dead the home of former state Rep. Clint Rotenberry, a fellow Republican, on Sunday, killed by a gunshot wound that the Simpson County Sheriff Kenneth Lewis said “appeared to be self-inflicted.” Other than that basic information, the details of Upshaw’s death are slim, and the coroner told the Jackson Clarion-Ledger he wouldn’t release any more. “She’s passed; that’s all I know at this point,” Simpson County Coroner Terry Tutor told the paper. “I’ve given it to [Mississippi Bureau of Investigation]. They’re doing their investigation on it.” Upshaw, 53, was single, and has a daughter and a son-in-law who recently brought their son to visit his grandmother, the paper reported. A spokesman for MBI told the paper, “It would be premature to make any statement regarding the investigation at this point.”
