New York reached a dubious milestone on Tuesday when the Coalition on Homelessness published a study that found an average of more than 50,000 people, including 21,034 children, had slept in its homeless shelters. That’s not just a city record, it’s a national one, with the city seeing a 73 percent rise in homeless families since 2002, The Wall Street Journal reports.
