If you missed Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s interview on 60 Minutes Sunday, don’t fret. You’ll be seeing a lot of Sandberg over the next few days, including on Good Morning America Monday, as she promotes her new book Lean In, which The Cut’s Kat Stoeffel described as a “hybrid feminist manifesto/professional-educational program for women.” But the 60 Minutes piece was Sandberg’s first television interview about the book, and it also represented the leaning in of another woman, interviewer Norah O’Donnell, who made her 60 Minutes debut with the segment.
Sandberg’s basic message to women, in the book and in her supporting public appearances, is that they shouldn’t hold themselves back professionally. “Put your foot on that gas pedal and keep it there,” she said in her famed 2011 Barnard commencement address. But she told O’Donnell she’s still tapping the breaks when it comes to one final area of ambition: running for office.
Norah O’Donnell: Does it bother you that there hasn’t been a woman president of the United States?
Sheryl Sandberg: Yes. It does.
Norah O’Donnell: Why wouldn’t you lean in and run?
Sheryl Sandberg: I mean, for me, I feel like I’m doing all the leaning in that I can do right now.
