Late last Thursday, Andrew Kitzenberg of Watertown, Massachusetts, “heard multiple ‘pops’ coming from outside,” he wrote in a blog post last night. “At that point, I had no idea that I was about to become an eye witness to the biggest news story in the country.” From his third-floor bedroom window, Kitzenberg used his iPhone to document the gun fight between police and the Boston bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. While he live-tweeted some of the shootout as it happened — including the bullet hole in his apartment — Kitzenberg’s full photo essay, combined with what we know now, provides a moment-by-moment account of the battle, which ended with Tamerlan dead in the middle of the street and Dzhokhar escaping in a black SUV, with exploded pressure cooker bombs in their wake.
