The Most Insane Front-Row Photos of the Boston Bomber Shootout

Cops hunt for a suspect on Walnut St. on Friday, Apr. 19, 2013 in Watertown, Mass. One suspect is dead, but another remains at large following violent incidents overnight that took the life of a police officer and shook the outskirts of the city. Authorities confirmed early Friday that the incidents in Cambridge and Watertown, Mass., were directly connected to the Boston Marathon attack Monday. Late last Thursday, Andrew Kitzenberg of Watertown, Massachusetts, “heard multiple ‘pops’ coming from outside,” he wrote in a blog post last night. “At that point, I had no idea that I was about to become an eye witness to the biggest news story in the country.” From his third-floor bedroom window, Kitzenberg used his iPhone to document the gun fight between police and the Boston bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. While he live-tweeted some of the shootout as it happened — including the bullet hole in his apartment — Kitzenberg’s full photo essay, combined with what we know now, provides a moment-by-moment account of the battle, which ended with Tamerlan dead in the middle of the street and Dzhokhar escaping in a black SUV, with exploded pressure cooker bombs in their wake.
