After appearing to call for Meghan McCain’s murder in a column on Wednesday, Ann Coulter appeared on Sean Hannity’s show Thursday and explained why everyone (including McCain herself, presumably) is an idiot for thinking she crossed a line with the quip. “So you were being sarcastic,” Hannity said. “I think the exclamation point made it clear,” Coulter replied. “And the fact that everyone laughed when they read it.” Yes, that is exactly what exclamation points do in text. That or, per Merriam Webster, they are “used especially after an interjection or exclamation to indicate forceful utterance or strong feeling.” Whichever.
