Week From Hell Continues As Flooded Illinois Town Is Evacuated

CHICAGO, IL - APRIL 18: A motorist drives through a flooded section of the Kennedy Expressway on April 18, 2013 in Chicago, Illinois. Thunderstorms dumped up to 5 inches of rain on parts of the Chicago area overnight, closing sections the Edens, Eisenhower and Kennedy expressways, which lead to and from downtown, during the morning rush. In the same week as a bomb attack on the Boston Marathon and a horrific explosion at a Texas fertilizer factory, an entire town in Illinois was being evacuated Thursday thanks to a levee breach amid heavy Midwest rain that also led to flooding in Chicago. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in the town of 392. But damn, can we catch any other kind of a break here? It’s actually making The Onion seem understated. “Jesus, This Week,” read a story in the the paper Thursday, echoing the sentiments of probably everybody in the country. And that was without even mentioning the deadly storms in the Midwest, the police officer shot at MIT, or the 7.0-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Japan. Ugh.
