Three weeks ago, Anthony Foxx, mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, announced that he wouldn’t be seeking reelection this year, noting that he has two young children. “I do not want to be a father who looks back and wishes I had spent more time with them,” he said in a statement. Now a White House official says that on Monday, President Obama will nominate Foxx to succeed Ray LaHood as secretary of Transportation. It’s going to be awkward when he turns down the huge promotion to hang out with his kids.
