gun control

No Using the Soup Nazi’s Likeness to Sell Guns for You!

For almost two decades now, the nation has been gratuitously stretching Seinfeld’s “No soup for you!” to fit its needs. Gun-maker Serbu Firearms was the latest to do so for commercial purposes, using the angry guest star’s face on a T-shirt to protest New York’s new gun laws, which ban the company’s semi-automatic sniper rifle in the state. As retaliation, the manufacturer is refusing to sell its weapons to the NYPD — hence “No Serbu for You!” Get it? The Soup Nazi isn’t laughing either.

I own the rights to my image as the Soup Nazi. Serbu did not ask my permission, and Facebook won’t take the image down. Not only did they do this without my authorization, but also I am an advocate of gun control,” the actor Larry Thomas told “Page Six.” “I have seen my face on T-shirts, random objects on eBay in the past, but politically this is the most offensive thing I have seen involving me as the Soup Nazi.”

Founder Mark Serbu understands: “He’s an actor, he doesn’t want to be involved with something as hot-button as guns. We are just going to shoot him. Only joking. We don’t want to get into a lawsuit; we’ll change the shirts.”

But since neither party seems willing to mention the obvious, we will: Even the man whose career is based on being called a Nazi doesn’t want to be associated with guns.
