The prosecutor charging a manager at the Tick Tock Diner in New Jersey with trying to hire a hit man to kill his uncle, an owner there, realizes how meta the whole alleged scheme sounds. “This is sort of out of a script right in New Jersey, where you’re going to meet at the Tick Tock Diner to rub out your uncle to advance yourself,” New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa told the Associated Press.
But he says in this case, the plot happened behind the counter of the legendary diner, where manager Georgios Spyropoulos thought his uncle, Alexandros Sgourdos (who also manages the Manhattan location), wielded too much control over the restaurant and took too much of the profit. Spyropoulos allegedly agreed to pay $20,000 to have a hit man (actually an undercover state trooper) shoot Sgourdos and hide the body well enough that the case would stay a missing persons investigation. Which admittedly sounds like something straight out of The Sopranos.
