Things we learned today: There exists a fellowship at Columbia University available only to people born in Iowa and “of the Caucasian race.” The fund, created in 1920, comes from a Des Moines woman named Lydia C. Chamberlain, who also stipulated recipients could not study law, medicine, dentistry, veterinary surgery, or theology, according to the New York Daily News. The university has finally filed an affidavit to get the race requirement changed, 93 years after the fact.
