Shirley Huntley Sentenced to a Year and a Day in Prison

The 74-year-old former State Senator will serve just over a year behind bars for taking about $90,000 from a nonprofit she ran. But, as is often the case these days, Huntley’s crime was overshadowed by allegations against other New York political figures. During the sentencing, Huntley’s lawyer said that her client has been helping federal officials build a case against Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who prosecuted Huntley previously. (Federal prosecutors declined to respond to Schneiderman claim specifically, though they did tell the New York Times that some of the information Huntley provided was “implausible.”) Huntley also apologized for her actions, which “embarrassed my family, my friends and my community” and “tarnished the good things I have done over the years.”
