Penny Pritzker, the Hyatt hotel heiress and Barack Obama’s finance chairwoman in 2008, will be nominated today as Commerce secretary, the culmination of an up-and-down political relationship with the president. The somewhat conciliatory gesture comes after Pritzker, an enemy of labor, almost got the same spot in Obama’s first term, but “her fortune risked making her radioactive.” In 2012, her fund-raising was much quieter, perhaps because she reportedly felt she’d “been slighted by a White House that has little interest in donor maintenance.” Here — happy now?
