Syria’s Internet Is Down

Google and several traffic monitoring firms noticed the loss of Internet connectivity in Syria on Tuesday afternoon, and reporters in the country confirmed that they could not get online. The cause of the disruption is unclear, but something similar happened in November. The Syrian government blamed that outage on “terrorists,” while pretty much everyone else blamed the Syrian government. Syrian rebels might be able to access the Internet via satellite devices, though that system makes it easier for Bashar al Assad’s regime to track their movements.
