Edward Snowden Charged With Espionage

That photo of Edward Snowden you’ve seen a million times.

It was bound to happen eventually, and “eventually,” it turns out, is today: Leaker/whistle-blower/hero/traitor Edward Snowden has been charged with “espionage, theft and conversion of government property,” the Washington Post reports. Next up is an indictment, and then officials will try to have Snowden extradited from Hong Kong, if he’s still there. Although the United States does have an extradition treaty with Hong Kong, it contains an exception for “offenses of a ‘political character,’” so the Post expects that any request “is likely to reach Hong Kong’s highest court.”
