Leave it to Joe Biden to lighten the mood, even at a funeral. The vice-president eulogized late New Jersey senator Frank Lautenberg today, along with private citizen Hillary Clinton, at the Park Avenue Synagogue on the Upper East Side, and he came with jokes. While Clinton played it straight, calling the Senate’s last World War II veteran a “champion of women’s rights and opportunities” who “loved and … was loved,” Biden did his dinner-party shtick. It’s unlikely anyone minded, except Clinton, who not only got shown up, but was also a victim of the good-natured ribbing:
