“Let’s all just acknowledge for a moment that this is weird,” John Oliver said last night as he began his three-month tenure as the host of the Daily Show while Jon Stewart directs a movie.
But honestly? It wasn’t that weird. Oliver handled the ongoing NSA controversy with the same incredulity (except, more British) that you’d expect from Stewart. (They do have writers, after all.)
As expected for his first episode, Oliver’s presence behind the desk was also a running joke. In this bit, the show’s other correspondents — jealous that Oliver was given the reins — take turns berating him instead of reporting about the NSA.
