The Hill reports that only 47 out of 100 senators attended a Friday afternoon information session with senior officials on the government’s headline-dominating classified surveillance programs, with many choosing to cut out early to enjoy Father’s Day weekend. “It’s hard to get this story out,” said the now “exasperated” Dianne Feinstein, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee. “Even now we have this big briefing — we’ve got [NSA head Keith] Alexander, we’ve got the FBI, we’ve got the Justice Department, we have the FISA Court there, we have [Director of National Intelligence James] Clapper there — and people are leaving.” Or, if you look at it another way, they’re merely reflecting the interests of their constituents.
