U.S. Settles for $4.1 Million With Student Forgotten in Cell

The United States plans to award a $4 million settlement to a University of California, San Diego student who spent four days without food and water, forgotten in a DEA holding cell last year. Daniel Chong was picked up in a drug bust at a house where he happened to be hanging out, but not charged. After legal fees, he’ll get $3.2 million for the ordeal, the AP reports, with which he plans to buy his parents a house. Of course, if he really wanted to make a statement, he’d buy $3.2 million worth of drugs.
