Fox News anthropologist Bill O’Reilly had one of his minions check out the Mermaid Parade in Coney Island this year, the event’s 30th. The result, which aired on last night’s O’Reilly Factor, was … extremely condescending and vaguely bigoted! “I’m not being a wise guy or being offensive. It seems like there are a lot of gays attracted to this,” the host said to his correspondent Jesse Watters, who filmed the segment with his collar popped. “Why is that?” Watters learned from his reporting that “a lot of the transvestite community descends on Coney Island during this parade. I have no idea why.” It’s all very illuminating.
“Just a week ago there was a gay pride parade,” said O’Reilly. “How many parades do you want?” Watters is again prepared to answer: “Well, they like parades! They’re into pageantry, they like to show off their wares,” he said.
“Exhibitionism,” said O’Reilly.
