You may not know Tony Metcalf by name, but public transit commuters almost certainly know his product: Metcalf, who died of colon cancer on Sunday in his native England, edited Metro U.S., the free daily paper with the green logo handed out at subway stations and bus stops in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston. He was 50 years old. Metcalf joined Metro in 2000, the New York Times reports, and started publications in a dozen cities worldwide before becoming editor-in-chief of Metro U.S. in 2008. According to Metro, he is survived by his wife and two children, ages 18 and 10.
