About a dozen years ago, a 10-year-old Patchogue girl named Sidonie Fery dropped a message in a bottle into the waters off the south coast of Long Island. In 2010, as an 18-year-old, Fery died in a tragic fall, but her note kept floating. Finally, last November, during the post-Sandy cleanup effort, her bottle was discovered and handed over to her grieving mom. Quoting a line that appears to be from Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, it reads, “Be excellent to yourself, dude.” Which is nice.
