When Jay-Z rapped that he had “White House clearance” in a song about his ridiculously politicized trip to Cuba, it was a nonliteral boast in a piece of writing (see also: Nicki Minaj “voting” for Romney). Not so for Jay’s earlier claim that he has “Obama on the text,” he told Hot 97 this week: “I’ve spoken to him on the phone and had texts from Obama. Of course,” said Mr. Carter. “He’s a regular guy as well. He’s very heavy into sports, so a lot of his analogies end up in sports.” For example? “I don’t know if this is breaching national security, but when he was getting elected the second time, he was like, ‘Hey, you know, fourth quarter, just give me the ball,’ I said, ‘Word.’” (We’ll give the president extra credit if he was alluding to Jay’s line, “Every fourth quarter, I like to Mike Jordan ‘em.”) Just wait until Sasha and Malia show him the basketball emoji.
